Daily Memphian - ‘Union Station’ would bring hotel, retail and residences to Union Ave.

union station development in Memphis, TN

On Wednesday, July 7th, the Daily Memphian’s Tom Bailey reported on the new mixed-use development being planned at the site of a former Memphis Police Department precinct on Union Avenue.

designshop is proud to be the architect for this project. We’re joined by a local group of partners to bring this project to life — owner G2 Ventures, construction firm Patton & Taylor Enterprises, and commercial real estate broker Sean Massey.

Our collective vision for the mixed-use space is to offer residential units, a hotel, and retail space in this prime Midtown location.

“Public art is planned for three places on the site.

“‘Perhaps the most significant contribution to public space and quality of life within Union Station is the activated sidewalk and patio space along the (internal) ‘street’ between the hotel and commercial retail center,’ a project document states.

“‘Serving both hotel guests and the public alike, the outdoor spaces provide a setting for social engagement…,’ the document states.

“The developers’ presentation emphasizes Union Station’s home-grown roots. Both Patton & Taylor and G2 Venture Group are local, and so is the project’s architecture firm, designshop.

“The project will be built to the principles of the Memphis 3.0 long-term development plan, and will be committed to spending 30 percent of the project budget with minority and women-owned subcontractors and suppliers, the development document states.” (Full article)
