South Main Apartments

Located within a block of the Civil Rights Museum, 386/390 South Main is a ground-up building designed to be sandwiched between two existing buildings on Main Street. 390 South Main is a historic building that is connected internally with 386. The site drops a full story from Main Street to Mulberry Street, allowing for five stories on the Main Street side of the building and six stories on the side facing Mulberry Street. The ground floor is designed as retail and restaurant space, with apartments on the floors above. The building has thirty-two apartment units including studio, 1-bedroom, and 2-bedroom layouts. The apartment units range from 594 to 1045 sf.

A basement is below, providing a space for tenant storage. The building features podium construction and is designed with a two-story brick base that aligns with the existing adjacent brick buildings. The upper eight floors are clad in corrugated metal with varying rib patterns. The building facade features large storefront windows, giving views of main street. Additionally, the front-facing façade is accented with natural wood panels that are typically used as the material to construct skateboard ramps. Other facades feature more typical residential windows that offer tenants additional views out above the neighboring buildings.
