Memphis Grizzlies Player Training Center

The Memphis Grizzlies Locker Room and Training Center include over 13,000 square feet of completely new facilities within the FedEx Forum, home of the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies. Working closely with Grizzlies staff, Forum staff, Coach Fizdale, and a limited number of players, the design required extensive demolition of existing facilities in order to provide a larger and more accommodating series of spaces for a premier NBA team. A new locker room served as the centerpiece of the project where a horseshoe arrangement nestled between existing building columns provided Coach Fizdale with an “all eyes visible” layout. Its finishes are sophisticated, displaying a timeless aesthetic indicative of a professional organization.

In support of the team and locker room, the project also included a large weight room with both turf and rubber flooring for various workout routines. A hydrotherapy room required enlargement in order to accommodate two new floor-recessed whirlpools. An existing hydrotherapy pool needed to remain in place, requiring extensive planning to introduce new program around the pool. A new, large training room with multiple training tables and cryotherapy chamber adjoined new training staff offices with an abundance of glazing offering distant views across various spaces. New showers, restrooms, sauna, and steam room rounded out the player support spaces and offered some of the nicest facilities in the NBA. A new entry sequence from the court allowed for a more celebrated arrival to the locker room while also connecting directly to the adjoining player’s lounge, also designed by designshop, pllc.
